Advanced Privacy Cleaner Bar™ (or APCB for short)
Most Asked Questions

1. I need to delete my browsing tracks for the last two days. Does APCB help me?
Yes, it does. APCB allows you to clean the History and Browser Cache selectively, on a given date, or during a certain period. Select from the menu Clean > History and select the period of time that you want to delete. The same actions can be taken to clean Temporary Internet Files (or TIF for short) and Cookies. All the information for the chosen period will be deleted.

2. With APCB can I see where others have been browsing on the Internet (for example, my wife's laptop) even if that computer has deleted the History files?
Yes it is possible. While surfing the web, IE saves information regarding the browsing of that user not only in History, but also in the index.dat file. This file is a hidden system file and cannot be deleted in the standard ways through IE or through Explorer. APCB gives the ability to look at the data in the index.dat file either on a local computer or other computers (on the network). To use this function, select from the menu File > Advanced and select Open Index File.

Note: Please be sure that your Folder Options tool in the Windows Control Panel allows the option to see hidden and system files (for detailed information, read this FAQ).

3. On my work computer I want to delete the browser tracks of certain sites. Is it possible?
Yes it is possible. APCB allows for the cleaning of History selectively, based on the URL site, protocol or the time of visit. Select from the menu Clean > History and select either the full or partial URL site or the date you want to delete. All browser tracks that contain the given text or link, will be deleted.

4. APCB has the option of cleaning the index.dat files. What is the index.dat file and why is it necessary?
Index.dat are files hidden on your computer that contain all of the Web addresses that you have ever visited. The size of these files continually grows, making IE less effective. Beyond that, the index.dat file contains full information of IE browser tracks, even if everything has been cleaned in Windows (TIF, History, Cookies). Therefore a periodic cleaning of index.dat will help in making IE more effective, efficient and keep your work in Windows more confidential.

5. I would like to clean the Cookies, but only for certain sites. Is that possible?
APCB allows for the cleaning of Cookies selectively based on URLs or on the time of creation. Select from the menu Clean > Cookies and select the period that you would like to delete. Also APCB allows for the periodical deletion of expired Cookies, to maintain the effective working of IE.

6. A month ago I visited a site, but I don't remember the exact address. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark it, and I cleaned my History. Does APCB help me?
While surfing the web, IE saves information regarding the browsing of that user not only in History, but also in the index.dat files. When you clear the History the index.dat files remain behind and continue to keep all the links. Under menu select File > Advanced and choose Open History. You can perform the same actions on Cache and Cookies (choose Open Cache or Open Cookies). All the information will be opened and in an organized manner, with the possibility to sort and broaden the search. The selected information can also be saved to a separate file.

7. By mistake I entered the incorrect address of a site in IE, and now every IE shows automatically this address even when I try to type in the correct address. I tried cleaning History, but it didn't help. What can I do?
When entering the full address in IE, the reference is saved in the system registry of Windows. When the partial address is typed, from the autocomplete address feature, the information is automatically retrieved from the registry and from History and is presented as a possible selection for the user. APCB allows the cleaning the list of those addresses. To do this, choose from the menu Clean and choose Typed URL List.
